She's going back in...

Not sure if anyone still reads this at all, but just wanted to give an update on Paige. She did really well on the antibiotics, but about 36 hours after stopping them, her infection started up again. The Dr. gave her an injection in her thigh of high powered antibiotics yesterday in an effort to keep her home, but it has gotten worse. This afternoon we will be admitted again for IV antibiotics. We will also be seen by an infectious disease doctor to try to find out what the heck this could be. Her last cultures never grew anything so we don't know what exactly we are dealing with. Just keep my sweet baby in your thoughts and hope that she will be home without pain very soon.

The Last 72 Hours...

seriously sucked!

Our little Paigey had to be admitted into the hospital Thursday. Last week she was complaining that her foot hurt her. It was red, swollen, and had two little blisters on it. I took her into the Dr on Saturday and they put her on antibiotics. Things did not improve so I took her back in on Wednesday morning because now she had this huge dark colored blister that had formed behind her toe. Of course my crazy mommy mind started googling some very scary conditions like MRSA and prayed a lot that she didn't have this. The Dr. popped the scary dark blister and sent a culture off to the lab to rule out and I quote, "Those things you were looking up on the computer." Yikes, I was really scared at this point. We were sent home with a new perscription of stronger antibiotics and strict instructions that if she got a fever, chills or if the redness went beyond what it is now (they marked it with a pen) we were to head to the ER.

Wednesday night went well and we even thought the redness had receded a bit by bedtime. When she woke up on Thursday morning, the redness had spread another 2 inches down her foot. Crap, to the ER we went. Bob took the day off and as soon as we got Piper on the bus we were off.

The ER took one look at her and said it looked like she would be staying overnight on IV antibiotics. We were in the ER for 8 hours before we finally got moved up to our room. The hardest part was when she had to get the IV put in. I know I cried just as many tears as she did. She got a wagon ride to x-ray and even got a bear for being so brave. This though is where my heart broke into a million little pieces. The words you never ever want to hear coming from your sweet 5 year old is, "Mommy, I don't want to die." I kept it together, gave her a bug hug and kisses and reassured her it would be okay (and then completely broke down later when she wasn't with me).

The ER wasn't bad though. She had her own little room with a DVD player and every movie you could think of. At one point she fell asleep because she had an allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics and they had to give her benadryl which wiped her out. Bob and I were very bored so we snuck one of the Game Cubes into her room so we had something to do. The nurses got a kick out of seeing a sleeping patient and the parents in the corner of the dark room playing Mario Tennis.

When she got to her room on the 4th floor there was another Teddy Bear awaiting her arrival. We ended up having to stay two nights. She was the best! She was always happy and was great about not getting bored. I got to stay with her in the very uncomfortable little chair that makes into a bed thing, but I would have slept on a bed of nails if I had to.

Paige was so happy to come home on Saturday. She said she wanted to sleep in her own bed where people don't wake you up all night long. They never did pinpoint what exactly she had. They said they covered her for strep, staph, and MRSA. She is on oral antibiotic for 8 more days, and we really hope that it will be cleared up by then. We do not want to go back to the hospital!!

I have to add that things were made a lot easier by the support of our family and friends. We had so many offers for help with Piper or whatever we needed, we felt very loved. Thank you all so much, the phone calls, pictures, baked goods, and visits were all very much appreciated!!

First Day of School

Hello...Anyone there....echo....

Today was the girls' first day of school. Yep I put my baby on the bus to Kindergarten and then Bob and I looked at each other and said, "What do we do now?" (the answer- nothing fun:P I mopped the floor and he attempted to mow which didn't go well, but that's another story).

Piper was up and ready for the bus at 7:45. We got her on and then Bob, Paige, and I rushed to the school to make sure she found her room. I really don't know what we were worried about, she is quite the little pro now. One down, one to go!

Paige is in pm Kindergarten so she doesn't have to get on the bus until 11:45. Everyday last year, Paige tried to sneak on Piper's K bus. She was so excited that it was finally her turn to ride the bus. When the bus came she was first in line and clapping, it was too cute. Then as the bus pulled away and we were waving we could see her little face pressed up against the window, waving back with a look of pure joy on her face. I can't remember a time when I have seen her look more happy. It was hard to cry when such a happy face was looking back at me.

So for the record I got them both to school with no tears. That is a huge accomplishment. And I mean my tears, not theirs.

Of course Bob and I went to the school to make sure she made the thrity foot walk to her classroom.

I volunteered at the school at the end of the day holding our bus sign so I could make sure the girls and all the other neighbor kids got on the correct bus. Glad to report they all made it home.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Those naughty little leprechauns paid a visit to our house last night and caused havoc in the girls' rooms while they slept. They switched chairs, moved things around and TPed their rooms.
The girls were so excited when they woke up! Piper did get up early this morning and was sure she had just missed them. Luckily she put her excitement aside and was able to go back to sleep (that's my girl).

The leprechauns also used the bathroom and guess what??? Leprechaun pee is green!! And they don't flush ;-) I will spare you a picture of that though.

The Force Is Strong Here

A few weeks ago Piper was telling Bob's brother, Ray, that she wanted to be Luke Skywalker for Halloween and she needs to get a blue lightsaber. Paige was yelling in the background she wants a red one. Well Uncle Ray came through and two boxes were sitting on our doorstep this week. The girls have been having a blast battling each other! The lightsabers pop up and make real noises.
Paige told me to take a picture of her because Piper had cut her arm off.

Paige miraculously grew her arm back and is here overtaking Piper. I'm pretty sure Piper lost an arm too at some point in the battle.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Piper has been so excited about Dr. Seuss' birthday (It was on March 2nd). She read the family Green Eggs and Ham before breakfast and then I made green eggs and ham for Piper and Paige for breakfast (there was no way Bob or I were touching that!).
You can see that Piper was thrilled! Paige, not so much.
To
finish the day Piper read the bedtime story and she chose One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Did you know that book was 61 pages long?!?! After page 20 I started alternating pages with her because we may still be reading that book if I hadn't.

Sisters

The greatest thing about have a sister is...

...being able to have a sleepover with your best friend anytime you want.

It's Out!!!

It took 15 days, but Piper has officially lost her first tooth! I was sad to not be here to see it (darn work), but Mimi and Papa took care of everything. Piper was showing Mimi how she could twist it and it twisted off in her hand.
I brought home ice cream to celebrate. The tooth is now tucked away inside her tooth fairy pillow along with a gem she wants to give her as well. I think #2 will be out in a day or two. The one next to it is really loose and the permanent tooth is growing in behind it already. That thing is huge!

Finally...

Piper has two loose teeth! She has stared her little tooth fairy pillow at and longed to lose a tooth for a year now and it is finally her turn! The girls started dance tonight and I noticed something in Piper's mouth and upon inspection it was her new tooth breaking through already! Her two bottom teeth are loose and she is so excited. I think everyone in the dance studio heard the news! She has been wiggling them back and forth constantly trying to get them to fall out. The good part is she wants to eat only apples and carrots to help the process along. The bad part is she spits out every bite of food to inspect it for teeth before swallowing it because she is terrified of swallowing one of them. I'll keep you all posted...
