I know, I know, I have been MIA
I am so sorry for not posting in a week. We are just emerging from the mucusy, phlegmy haze (are those even words??) around here. And the coughing! Don't get me started on the coughing. At one point I felt I it was my own personal Chinese Water Torture because the sound of three people hacking away was driving me completely mad. It was all I could do from running away to a hotel room for the night just for a little quiet. But, things are starting to look up so I will get some pictures and some merriment going on here again very soon.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

You want to know what I got for Valentine's Day? A sick family. Bob is home for the third day this week and if you don't know him, that is huge. He never gets sick and never calls in sick to work. I feel so sorry for the poor guy. Both girls are also sick. I thought Piper was done with it until 4am when she started coughing and barking uncontrollably.
So instead of a house full of flowers I have a house strewn with Kleenex that I am too afraid to touch. There will be no champagne flowing tonight, only shots of Nyquil for everyone. I was going to make our traditional Valentine's dinner for Bob and I, but since he really can't taste anything those plans have been scrapped as well.
What I do have is a houseful of people that love each other and I guess that is what really matters on the holiday (well a Hallmark manufactured holiday) of love. Hope you all have a good one.

Two Dancing Princesses

The girls recently started dance again (well this is the first time for Paige) and they absolutely love it! They are both in a ballet/tap combo class. The teacher said that it would be okay for Paige to skip ahead and go to Piper's class so my life would be easier (what's that mean???), but Paige really made it clear that she wanted to dance in her own class with her own friends. I think sometimes she gets lumped into things so much with her sister she just wants something that is her own. Can't blame her there. Thankfully their classes are back to back on a Wednesday morning so I don't have to go to the studio twice a week.
Paige's New Glasses

Paige had been complaining and crying at nigt that her left eye hurt so we decided to take her in to our eye doctor (which we just love). Sure enough her right eye wasn't working as well and her left eye was starting to over compensate for it which is why by the end of the night her left eye would ache. Bottom line- Paige needs glasses. It was a little upsetting at first because you never want to hear about something wrong with your child, but now that she has them she loves tham and she looks so darn cute in them! We picked out pink Barbie glasses.

She is so good with them too. I really expected to be on our 3rd pair by now, but she is so responsible. I hear from the preschool parents that their kids want glasses too just like Paige.
A Rite of Passage
I don't exactly know what it is, but there is just something about taking your daughter to Claire's to get her ears pierced that just makes you feel like in this small way you have come full circle.
Piper and I had had many discussions on earrings and ear piercing and Bob and I decided that at 5 she could get it done. She was really hesitant and we thought, hey that's cool, she can do it when she is ready. Well then my brother Matt and his family came to visit for Thanksgiving and it only took a few days of completely idolizing his 11 year old daughter Erica to convince her that she needed her ears pierced. No sooner did they leave for the airport that we were heading to the mall.

She did great! They did both ears at the same time so that was a huge help. I was seriously afraid that she would get one done and that would be it. She picked out rubies to get them pierced with and although I would have never picked those (but Piper always chooses exactly the opposite of what I would do- fun times ahead I'm sure!) she looks very cute.

I see several trips to Claire's in my future. In a completely "OMG I am old" moment I realized that there was not one pair of appropriate earring for someone of my age. How did this happen? Another crazy fallout of the whole experience was the reaction we got from some people. "I can't believe Bob let her do that!" Okay so they can believe that I would because I guess I poke holes in children all of the time and they expect it from me? I have to say these comments made him question his protective Daddiness. I mean it's not like she asked to pierce her belly button or nipples. We're pretty sure we would have said no to those ;)

Where to Begin...
Well I guess I should just start with today, but there are a few things that have happened in the past few months that I thought I would share so let's take a very short trip down memory lane together...

Welcome

Hi there friends and family! I have decided to make the big leap into the world of blogs. I figure this way I can post all of the exciting, not so exciting, and completely mundane things that go on in our family. I hope to update it with pictures and posts several times a week, but really who am I fooling. But, you should add it to your favorites and check back often because who knows, I just may surprise you ;)
