Does this look comfy to you?????

I'm not sure who here has seen Piper's bed. It was my sisters' old full sized canopy bed from almost 40 years ago. It was white-washed wood with gold trim. Wel last year I painstakingly sanded, primed and painted it. Bob has a much steadier hand so he took the pink paint that is on her walls and trimmed out all of the details. It is beautiful, if I do say so myself. Do you think the kid wants to sleep in it? Heck no. There are many nights where we go up and find her sleeping on the floor. This particular night I asked her what happened and she said that she got cold on the floor so she crawled under her throw rug. My child is a freak!

IKEA!!

Yeah Portland finally got an IKEA!! Okay I know IKEA is mearly a European K-Mart, but I still love it. It opened on Wednesday and we almost went then, but decided to give it a few days so we went on Friday instead. I have to admit that I think we have outgrown a lot of their furniture. It just isn't my taste anymore, but I still love that store. We bought some stuff for the girls and a few little cheap kitchen gadgets. The best part is the kid drop off area they have. We figured at only 2 days old it was the cleanest it was going to be and the girls were dying to go in, so we checked them in. There is a huge ball pit, a little rock climbing wall, things to play on, an art area and a loft with a bunch of comfy pillows and a movie playing. They also give you a pager so if your child needs anything they can get ahold of you right away. The girls had a blast and there were quite a few staff members supervising. All in all a great trip. Paige was a little disappointed because she wanted Swedish meatballs for dinner, but the line for the cafe was outrageous so she will have to get them another day.

The trip was close to perfect until Paige got mad at Piper and poked her in the eye. Geez, we can't go anywhere without a little drama.

4th of July

So, I am doing fairly well keeping this thing up, right?!? I think letting go the need to do things in order has freed me. We did make it to Enchanted Forest last weekend and I will blog about that and add some pics later.

Today's topic will be 4th of July. We had a big BBQ and fireworks display with all the neighborhood. There are 12 kids starting Kindergarten in our neighborhood so it was fun getting a bunch of them together (I really fear this neighborhood in 10 years- lots and lots of teenagers!) Bob sold some scrap metal from work and the money was just burning a hole in his pocket so what better place to burn it than 4 different fireworks stands. I just don't have the set things on fire and watch them explode gene, because I am happy to watch the other people's fireworks, but Bob has to blown up his own. Piper actually watched them this year. She is usually so afraid that she stays int he house. She was huddled behind me most of the time, but she stayed. Baby steps I guess. She did get into the sparklers. Paige, the dare devil loved every minute of it!

Rained Out.

This weekend was the annual MOMS Club camping trip that we all look forward to every year. Unfortunately, it is raining and just yucky outside so we decided not to go up. Four families braved the weather and I am in awe of them, but rain and tent just didn't sound like it went well together so we are staying home. The girls are so disappointed so I told Bob this was going to cost us. Last night we took them to see Ratatoille (I know I spelled that wrong). It was a longer movie and a little slow in parts. I really liked it, but the girls were not thrilled. Piper decided that we wouldn't be buying that one when it comes out (uh, yeah we will!). Today we may head down to Salem to the Enchanted Forest, a little mini-amusement park for smaller kids. And then I think bowling might be on the agenda for tomorrow. So much togetherness I may not be able to stand it.

Look What I Did!

Okay, I know it has been forever since I have been on here. I am a bad blogger. I guess there are so many things I want to put on and I think I have to go in cronological order so I don't post the newer stuff because I feel guilty about not posting the older stuff yet, catch my drift? But I have decided that I am just going to start throwing stuff up here willy-nilly and things may be new or they may be old and that is okay.

So, I will begin with my latest achievment...

I have wanted to learn to sew forever. Bob bought me a nice machine last year and the book Sewing for Dummies for Christmas. Well it sat untouched until recently. My MIL was here for the girls' dance recital and she taught me how to use my machine. I made a couple of pillows for them to use in the car for our big girls road trip, and this week I bought a pattern and attempted a dress!

Not too bad, if I do say so myself. I had to rip things out a few times because pieces kept getting in the way and getting sewn to other random pieces and I accidentally cut a hole in the bodice when I was trimming up the excess material on the seams, but nothing a little ribbon couldn't fix. And really, with the cost of all of the stuff and the time spent doing it, I could have gone to Walmart and bought one a lot cheaper, but Paige loves it and she told me it was the most special thing I have ever given her. So that made it all worth it. It's nice to know I can do it and while I am not ready to start making all of our clothes by hand (although you are a smaller size in pattern world) I do see that a Dorothy costume would not be too hard to whip up. Piper's Glinda the Good Witch costume might have to be outsourced to Grandma though.
